Flood Defence Works Honoured In Industry Awards
Denbighshire County Council is delighted to have been honoured at a prestigious industry award ceremony.
The British Construction Industry Awards recognise and reward excellence in project delivery. With a panel of exceptional judges, site visits were made to all shortlisted projects and rigorous interviews for all shortlisted companies.
13 projects were shortlisted in the Building Project of the Year (up to £10 million) category and Denbighshire’s West Rhyl Coastal Defence Phase 3 project was crowned winner. The Council worked in partnership with Dawnus Construction to deliver the project.
Work on the Rhyl scheme was carried out as part of the scheme to upgrade previous defences, to provide more protection for the town against flooding. The work was completed in October and consisted of improvements to the existing promenade with enhanced public realm, pedestrian and cycle routes and the construction of primary and secondary flood defence walls.
The scheme was carried out using Welsh Government grant funding, with additional funding from the European Regional Development Fund, Denbighshire County Council and Rhyl Town Council.
Councillor David Smith, Cabinet Lead Member for Environment, said: “The vitally important work of improving flood defences for Rhyl and protecting communities from flooding has been a major project and we are delighted that all the hard work and commitment to delivering the project has been recognised as sector-leading by industry experts.
“I would like to congratulate the whole team on their success and recognition for engineering excellence. To be presented with a national award is a feather in their cap and an achievement worth celebrating”.
