Former Denbighshire Rugby Club Could Become Glamping Site, New Planning Application Reveals

A former Denbighshire rugby club could be transformed into a glamping site after a revised planning application was submitted.
A Llandudno-based developer has applied to Denbighshire County Council’s planning department, seeking permission for a change of use of the former Rhyl Rugby Club at Y Waen, Rhuddlan.
The club moved to its new purpose-built facility on Tynewydd Road in Rhyl at the end of 2018.
Now Mr W. Ward hopes to transform the ground into a high-quality, small-scale glamping site of nine pods. A previous proposal to build 35-40 holiday lodges and seven-10 one-bedroom holiday pods was called in by the Welsh Government and rejected.
The application says all the proposed units will be situated on non-agricultural land.
The developer also wants to convert the existing sports and social club building to provide a reception and offices and proposes to install a second treatment plant. If granted, the new glamping business would create three full-time and four part-time jobs.
A planning statement to the council said: “The applicants have provided assurance that the proposed development will not adversely affect the overall landscape character. In fact, the project will greatly improve the abandoned and vandalised site, which regrettably has become an unsightly blight on the area.
“The applicants are eager to start a new glamping business and feel due to their work experience within the holiday and catering industry as well as having strong local connections, the proposed glamping site will be a thriving business for the foreseeable future.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
