Historical Farm Buildings Near Denbigh Set to Become Holiday Accommodation

Historical farm buildings near Denbigh could soon be transformed into holiday accommodation.
Dr Marian Hooson has applied to Denbighshire County Council’s planning department, seeking permission to convert an existing barn and outbuildings at Segrwyd Isa Farm on Lawnt Road, Denbigh.
The farm lies to the south of Segrwyd Hall, a seven-hundred-year-old grade-two listed country estate.
The 93.60 square-metre barn and outbuildings are grade-two-listed buildings and protected by Welsh heritage guardians CADW.
If Dr Hoonson is granted permission, the barn and outbuildings will be linked and converted into one holiday letting unit, which will include amenity curtilage, parking, and mini sewer treatment plant.
Wynn Rogers Architectural Services have been commissioned to design the holiday accommodation whilst preserving the previous history of the building.
The farm buildings are thought to have once been used as ‘cow housing’, possibly for calving or for bulls. There is a high-walled enclosure adjacent to buildings and a small brick-built building featuring ‘gothic’ windows.
A heritage assessment carried out by the applicant concluded that the development would not be detrimental to the area and claims materials used will complement the existing building and that alterations will be kept to a minimum.
