School build construction experience for Glan Clwyd students
Students from Ysgol Glan Clwyd will be given an unique, first – hand experience of the production of a steel frame that will form the structure of the school’s brand new building.
£15.9 million is being invested in extending and improving the school building, due to an increase in demand for spaces, as well as providing new, modern facilities at the school. The development is being funded by Denbighshire County Council and the Welsh Government through the 21st Century Schools programme.
Contractors Willmott Dixon have now worked with the steelworks sub-contractor Evadx to offer Year 12 and 13 students the chance to visit the production line in Kinmel Bay.
Pupils will have an opportunity to experience the whole process, from the detailed design and creation of the 3d model within Evadx’s drawing room, to the fabrication on the machinery in the factory to the planning for the delivery and erection of the steel frame at the school.
Evadx will also give pupils an insight and view of the industry and raise awareness of apprenticeship opportunities in the industry and specifically in relation to Evadx.
Students will visit the site on Tuesday, 23rd February (10.30am-11.30am and between 2pm and 3pm) and Friday, 26th February between 10.30am and 11.30am.
The new building work is expected to be completed by October 2017.
