Construction Site Safety Mascot Visits School

12 new council homes being built under the council’s SHARP initiative are nearing completion in Connah’s Quay on the site of the former Custom House Lane School. The site is adjacent to Ysgol Cae’r Nant and the council’s strategic housing partner Wates Living Space Homes, who are building the new homes, recently arranged for the construction industry mascot ‘Ivor Good Site’ to visit the school to reinforce the safety message of how dangerous playing on a construction site can be. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Whilst at the school Ivor presented pupils with information packs highlighting the hazards that may be found on, or around, a live construction site and information about how children can remain safe. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr. Aaron Shotton, Leader of Flintshire County Council said; ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Whilst I am delighted at the progress on the new council homes it is important that children and the wider community understand the hazards and dangers of playing in and around building sites. I am very pleased that Wates Residential clearly have their health and safety responsibilities to local communities to the fore in the design and construction of their developments. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
