Council Welcomes Sporting Heroes
Flintshire County Council has hosted a special civic event to recognise the achievement of our county’s Paralympic heroes.
Sabrina Fortune, F20 shot put bronze medallist, and Beverley Jones who competed in the F37 discus in 2016 – her 5th Paralympic Games in a row – were welcomed at a reception hosted by the Chairman, Councillor Peter Curtis, the Leader, Cllr Aaron Shotton and Chief Executive, Colin Everett, along other councillors and officers.
Following the reception, the athletes attended a presentation at the start of the County Council meeting in County Hall, Mold where they each received a bouquet of flowers and a standing ovation.
Chairman of Flintshire County Council, Councillor Peter Curtis, said:
“It is a tremendous honour to welcome these two outstanding athletes to County Hall today. On behalf of the whole of Flintshire County Council, I would like to thank you both for your incredible contribution to sport, not only nationally, but in the local area.
‘I am delighted that both Beverley, Sabrina and their guests, were able to join us today. It is fitting that their home county should recognise their achievements and I warmly congratulate both of you on your success.”
