Mold Dementia Friendly Awards

Mold Dementia Friendly Steering Group, in association with Flintshire County Council, held their Business Awards recently at Llys Jasmine Memory Café, Mold.
The event was a celebration for the ten Mold businesses or organisations which have been successful in achieving the status of “Working towards becoming Dementia Friendly”.
These businesses have successfully pledged a minimum of 4 actions from any of the commitment sections listed below:
Commitment 1: Improve staff awareness and understanding (actions include: appointing a dementia champion for the organisation, providing basic understanding of dementia to staff).
Commitment 2: Review the physical environment of the store/ premises (actions include: clear signage in store, well-lit entrances).
Commitment 3: Support staff who develop dementia or care for a person with dementia (actions include: changing the person’s role, providing in-house counselling).
Commitment 4: Support the local community (actions include: fundraising, volunteering, charity partnerships).

Flintshire County Council Cabinet Member for Social Services, Councillor Christine Jones, said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“This is the second time we have held these awards and they have proved very successful as they help raise the profile of this condition and show what organisations can do to make life easier for people with dementia and their families. It continues the great work being done throughout the county, for example the opening of memory cafes.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cathy Peach, Chair of the Mold group, said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Our group has worked really hard hard to raise awareness of dementia with the help of the Alzheimer’s Society and is committed to working with local businesses, schools and community groups to ensure that Mold is a place where people with dementia are understood, respected, supported and confident that they can contribute to the life of the town.
“Our group has been extremely well supported by the team at Flintshire County Council’s Social Services Department.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
