Community Chest Grant Promotes Sports In Gwynedd

Gwynedd Community Chest has allocated a total of £11,732 to nine sports clubs in Gwynedd, during a recent meeting. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Gwynedd Community Chest grants provide assistance and support to various clubs and organisations who are involved in sport across the county, such as running clubs, Girls Football, Rugby, Gymnastics, Badminton and many more. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The allocated Gwynedd Community Chest grant money, together with Gwynedd Council’s Healthy Communities department aim to promote fitness, sports clubs and organisations in the county and to provide better sporting opportunities for Gwynedd residents. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor Mair Rowlands, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Healthy Gwynedd said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The purpose of the Gwynedd Community Chest is to support and promote a variety of sports throughout the county. As a Council, we recognise the importance and need for sports clubs and organisations in our communities, and it is important that we give as much support as we can for them to succeed. It is encouraging that the Community Chest grants will continue to be of assistance to a large number of sports clubs and organisations in Gwynedd. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“I would encourage any club or sports organisation in Gwynedd who believe they are eligible for financial support from the Gwynedd Community Chest to present their application as soon as possible. A grant such as this can help with continuation and development of clubs and organisations in the current challenging financial times. ” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

At the most recent Gwynedd Community Chest meeting, grants were divided into a number of clubs including: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

– Bala Badminton Club, in order to establish a new club and encourage children and young people to participate as well as adults. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

– Hebog Runners Club from Porthmadog has been set up since last year the grant will contribute to purchase equipment and to attend a training course LiRF (Leadership in Running Fitness) to attract more new runners and inexperienced runners into the club and providing evening and winter sessions when the weather is bad. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

– Cader Idris Gymnastics Club in Dolgellau to upgrade the level of their coaches to increase the quality and cope with the demand for Gymnastics in Meirionnydd. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

– Bala rugby club to establish a women’s team by ordering futile exercise and apply level 1 training course volunteers. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

– Bangor Bangoroos Trampolining Club for training level 1 to 5 new volunteers at the club who do special work with children and young people with difficulties and disabilities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

– South Snowdonia Support Group (Parkinson’s UK) to establish a Boccia club. This will be the first of a series that the organisation hopes to create in Gwynedd in conjunction with Disability Sport Wales Officer. The hope is to establish a number of clubs in order to provide the opportunity for a number of individuals with Parkinson’s disease to participate throughout the county and to come together to hold competitions. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The next meeting will be held on 30 January with a closing date for entries on 6 January. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
