Enjoying The Great Outdoors Through The Medium Of Welsh
Hunaniaith, the Gwynedd based Menter Iaith, is arranging a series of fun activities for the whole family in the next few weeks in various locations throughout the county to give children and young people in Gwynedd the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities through the medium of Welsh.
The aim of the activities that will be held in Dyffryn Ogwen, Llanbedrog, Penrhyndeudraeth and Corris over the coming weeks is to use outdoor activities as a medium to engage with children, young adults and their families; to give them an opportunity to enjoy an activity in Welsh and to see that there is real benefit from the Welsh language.
Ifan Llewelyn, a Language Development Officer with Hunaniaith said: “Our aim in arranging these outdoor activities is to highlight that Welsh is a language and a medium to enjoy and relax whilst using it and that it is a social language for young people and families to use at home and in family activities.
“The activities are targeting young peole from any language background, for families who are learning Welsh, from multilingual backgrounds and families who speak Welsh all the time.”
Hunaniaith is working in partnership with Anelu, a business from Dyffryn Ogwen that delivers outdoor activities leadership and training. Anelu sees the benefits from offering activities through the medium of Welsh and have seen that the outdoor sector is a secure and firm business area to work through the Welsh language.
These activities have been arranged with financial support from the Welsh Government.
