Environmental Roadshow A Big Success
Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Town scheme recently enabled pupils from primary schools across the county to meet popular entertainers Gregory Brothers and Crew who have been touring schools again this year to raise awareness about various environmental issues.
Now in its third year, the Tidy Towns roadshow, which is supported through a Welsh Government grant aims to educate and raise awareness of environmental matters such as littering, dog fouling and the need to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. The performances are light hearted and entertaining with the brothers ably assisted by characters Tidy Ted and Eli Eco.
Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Environment matters, Councillor John Wynn Jones, said: “This imaginative and very entertaining show is proving to be a great hit with pupils and teachers alike. Live theatre is such a rare and valuable educational tool and we are very lucky in Gwynedd to have the Gregory Brothers and Crew here again.
“I am confident that these positive environmental messages will have a lasting impact. By raising our children’s awareness of important local environmental issues Tidy Towns will have helped to ensure a cleaner, greener and healthier future for all in Gwynedd.”
Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns Officer Jonathan Gwyn Neale, added: “These shows have been one of our most successful projects and so far over 4,000 children in Gwynedd have benefited from the initiative. We hope that their experience and the environmental messages remain with them throughout their lives.”
Iona Wyn Jones, headteacher of Ysgol Bro Cynfal, Llan Ffestiniog, said: “Access to live shows, such as the Tidy Towns Roadshow, is essential for primary schools. All-important environmental themes come alive through the characters and as a result the pupils remember and act upon these messages. All the children – and teachers – greatly enjoyed the performance.”
Lyndsey Vaughan Pleming, headteacher at Ysgol Chwilog, noted: “The show shared a number of important environmental messages but it was all done in a fun and interesting way. The children were thrilled with the colourful and amusing characters, and the show’s songs are sure to be sung for a long time to come. Thanks to Gwynedd Council for bringing the show to us in Chwilog and to the Brothers and Crew for their fantastic performance.”
Rowena Robert-Evans, Ysgol Bontnewydd headteacher said: “On behalf of Ysgol Bontnewydd I’d like to thank Gwynedd Council for bringing the Tidy Towns roadshow to the school. Everyone enjoyed the lively and educational performance from the Brothers about reducing, reusing and recycling waste, as well as the messages about not throwing litter and being careful about dog fouling. Fantastic!”
On behalf of the brothers, Adrian Gregory said: ‘It was a pleasure again to bring the environment roadshow to schools in Gwynedd. The children responded really well to the important messages delivered through songs and various sketches with different characters highlighting key issues. Our emphasis is to provide an entertaining and humorous performance but with very important messages within the content.

The environmental roadshow was organised by Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns initiative and funded by Welsh Government.
