Gwynedd Council Clamps Down Of Environmental Crime
Gwynedd Council has released details of recent Court cases relating to environmental crime, including fines for fly-tipping, littering and breaking the law relating to the storage of waste.
John Nigel Evans of 108 Ffordd Manod, Blaenau Ffestiniog, pleaded guilty at Dolgellau Magistrates court for failure, under section 34(6) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, in his duty of care to prevent the escape of controlled waste, namely rubble. He was ordered to pay total fines and costs amounting to £770, which included a fine of £270 for the offence, £470 court costs and a victim surcharge of £30.
Michael Steven Tyrrell of 4 Beuno Terrace, Clynnog Fawr, pleaded guilty at Caernarfon Magistrates court for fly-tipping 25 black bin bags of household waste on or in land near Haulfron, Pencaenewydd, contrary to section 33(6) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. He was ordered to carry out a 12 month community order of 100 hours unpaid work, as well as pay a total of £298 costs, which included a £60 victim surcharge.
Caernarfon Magistrates found Llyr Aerau Baum Jones of Y Wenallt, Pontllyfni, Caernarfon, guilty of littering at Holyhead Road, Upper Bangor, on 9 October 2015, contrary to section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. He was ordered to pay fines and costs amounting to £225, which include a fine of £55 for the offence, £150 court costs and a victim surcharge of £20.
