Lecture To Discuss Cynan And The Great War

A lecture will be held at the Lloyd George Museum in Llanystumdwy on Friday night, 20 January at 7:30pm discussing how Welsh poet Cynan responded creatively to the events of the First World War. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Professor Gerwyn Wiliams will be hosting the Welsh language lecture entitled “Cynan a’r Rhyfel Mawr” (“Cynan and the Great War”). Professor Wiliams, Head of the School of Welsh at Bangor University, specialises in Welsh literature and the First World War. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

His lecture will include information about Albert Evans Jones or Cynan (1895-1970) – one of the foremost Welsh poet of the First World War. Cynan was born and brought up in Pwllheli and serviced in Macedonia as a member of the RAMC and later became a chaplain. This lecture will discuss his creative reponse to the war and the way it affected him for the rest of his life. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
