Smarter Swimming Lessons At Gwynedd Leisure Centres

Gwynedd Council’s swimming teachers are now using iPads on poolside to record each child’s attendance and progress ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Smarter swimming lessons at Gwynedd leisure centres ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Gwynedd leisure centres have recently introduced a new electronic lesson management and performance system for their swimming lessons which allows lessons to be delivered in a simpler and more effective way, by using electronic registration and assessment. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

As part of the ‘Learn2’ system, Gwynedd Council’s swimming teachers are now using tablet devices on poolside to record each child’s attendance and progress, which allows parents to receive feedback about their child’s progress from reception. The Council also is working towards a solution whereby parents can view this progress online. This system is allowing swimmers to move through the curriculum efficiently and is reducing waiting lists across the county. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor Mair Rowlands, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Healthy Gwynedd said: “The system is an effective way to track progress and attendance but can also be used to demonstrate videos on the assessment criteria, strokes and techniques on the tablet device at poolside. This new development forms part of the Council’s Leisure Service’s investment into the use of new technology to improve the service to Gwynedd residents.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Children’s swimming lessons are available at all seven Gwynedd Council-run pools. The pools are located in Bangor, Caernarfon, Pwllheli, Porthmadog, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Tywyn and Y Bala. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
