Two long serving volunteers from the walking group at Glaslyn Leisure Centre, Porthmadog were recently presented with a slate trophy to thank them for their hard work and dedication.
Gwynedd Council’s Healthy Living Development officer, Sharon Jones joined them during their annual trip to the Precipice walk in Llanfachreth to present the trophies to Vic Tritton and Martin Emery.
The group recently celebrated its tenth year of walking. Vic Tritton and Martin Emery have led weekly walks in their communities following attendance on a walk leader course and subsequent first aid course. . Vic has not missed a walk in the last ten years of walking which is quite an accomplishment. During this year’s walk the group had the opportunity to relax with a picnic and a small glass of bubbly overlooking the Barmouth estuary.
Councillor Mair Rowlands, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Healthy Gwynedd said:
“We are extremely grateful to these volunteers who have contributed so much to improving the health and well-being of their walkers by ensuring the walks are led in a safe and enjoyable manner. The groups meet on a weekly basis and walk for a few hours as a group; having the opportunity to explore their local countryside whilst socialising with fellow walkers.”
