A number of agencies come together with the local community to take part in two environmental action days arranged by housing association Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG) at Tan-y-Bryn and Maesgeirchen last week. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The aim of the environmental action days was to improve the area, raise awareness about the importance of recycling and restore a sense of community pride. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Officers from a wide range of agencies, including CCG, Gwynedd Council, Community First, North Wales Police, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Keep Wales Tidy and Partneriaeth Maesgerichen Partnership (PMP) took part in the two day clean-up. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The day was organised by CCG and local Councillor Nigel Pickavance. A number of people – including CCG’s junior wardens, local residents and volunteers cleared rubbish, unwanted appliances and furniture from the area. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Gareth Roberts, Community Warden for CCG in the Bangor area said: “This is an excellent example of what can be achieved when partners come together for the good of the community. It was also great to see the community get their hands dirty, for the benefit of their own square mile. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Litter picking and fly tipping clearance were the main priorities. People had an opportunity to get rid of large items of rubbish – such as large furniture and rubbish from the garden for free. We hope this will prevent further instances of fly tipping. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“I’d like to thank everyone who helped, from our partner agencies to the volunteers and our team of young junior wardens who worked hard all day.” Councillor John Wynn Jones, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment said: “I am very pleased to hear that so much hard work has gone into addressing environmental issues on the estate. I am particularly grateful to the very willing young volunteers, who typify the strong sense of pride within their community. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“This type of close partnership working is very beneficial and helps to raise awareness of issues such as fly-tipping, responsible waste disposal, recycling, fire prevention, and so on. Gwynedd Council’s officers have fully participated in the event and Council’s Tidy Towns scheme has also covered some of the waste disposal costs.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The environmental action days were funded by Communities First, CCG and Gwynedd Council’s Street Enforcement Team, and kindly supported by Keep Wales Tidy, PMP and private businesses Williams and Williams and Blakemore Wholesale. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Gwynedd Council works in close partnership with Fly-tipping Action Wales to tackle fly-tipping problems. To report a fly-tipping incident in confidence, call Gwynedd Council’s Street Enforcement team on 01766 771000, e-mail streetenforcement@gwynedd.gov.uk, or contact via the website www.gwynedd.gov.uk ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

There are many ways to dispose of household waste responsibly, including using the Council’s Waste Recycling Centres. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
