Ysgol Llanllechid Pupils Commended For Tidy-Up

A group of very enthusiastic pupils from Ysgol Llanllechid in the Bethesda area, have recently been helping to clean-up litter from their local area. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Fifteen pupils from Ysgol Llanllechid teamed up with volunteers from the Balchder Bro Dyffryn Ogwen group (Dyffryn Ogwen Community Pride) and collected 22 bags of litter from open land and footpaths. Their hard work was supported by Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Town scheme, which provided bags and litter collection equipment, in addition to removing the bags for disposal. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor John Wynn Jones, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet member for the Environment, said: “Ysgol Llanllechid pupils are to be highly commended for their excellent work alongside the Dyffryn Ogwen volunteers. In addition to the obvious benefits of removing litter, the pupil’s efforts highlight the need for a change of attitude by the small and very selfish minority who drop litter. Please put your litter in the bin and remember to recycle your cans and bottles – it’s that simple.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Balchder Bro Dyffryn Ogwen member, Gwynedd Councillor Ann Williams, noted: “I am again extremely grateful to the Llanllechid school pupils, their form master Mr Stephen Jones and the Balchder Bro Dyffryn Ogwen volunteers who have all done a great job in cleaning up the litter so carelessly discarded by others. They have certainly made a noticeable difference and let’s hope that others will learn from their example to ensure that Bethesda is a Tidy Town.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Gwenan Davies-Jones, Head Teacher, Ysgol Llanllechid added: “It has been a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with members of Balchder Bro group and Tidy Towns. Ysgol Llanllechid pupils enthusiastically collected litter from around the area, including along the ‘Lon Fach Odro’ footpath. They succeeded in collecting 22 bags in no time and we later received phone calls from members of the public congratulating the school on its work in the local community.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
