Ysgol Y Faenol survey motorist’s speed outside school
Councillor Dafydd Meurig, Cabinet Member for Road Safety, Jen Francis, a member of Ysgol Y Faenol staff and pupils from the School Council.
A speed survey was conducted recently at Ysgol Y Faenol, Bangor following concerns about various safety issues outside the school.
Members of Gwynedd Council and the Isle of Anglesey County Council’s Road Safety Unit under the umbrella of Gwynedd and Mon Partnership decided to conduct speed surveys with members from the School Council.
The pupils from the Penrhosgarnedd school who participated gained the opportunity to use specialist equipment which monitors the speed of travelling cars from a distance. They were also requested to complete a survey so that they could monitor the number of cars parking in the area as well as travelling habits of pupils attending the school.
Councillor Dafydd Meurig, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Road Safety, said:
“Seeing children who are part of the School Council coming together in an attempt to tackle the problem of those who speed past the school is extremely encouraging. It sets a fantastic example for them for the future when they will be learning to drive themselves. We hope that this survey will put an end to the speeding problem.”
The result of the survey will be compiled together with the final results being presented to Gwynedd Council.
