Transport Grant Of Almost £500K Secured By WCBC
Transport grant funding of £476,560 has been secured from the Welsh Assembly by Wrexham Council.
The funding will see more 20 mph routes to school, improved pedestrian and cyclist facilities and more safety training.
£79,200 will be used to implement 20 mph zones around 7 schools:
- Acrefair CP school
- Bwlchgwyn CP School
- The Maelor School, Penley
- Madras CP, Penley
- St Paul’s Aided, Isycoed
- St Peter’s Rossett
- Ysgol Pontfadog.
£130,500 will fund three safety studies carried out. One on the B5101, Prices lane to Brymbo hermitage Way, A539 Ruabon to Junction A525 Hanmer and A534, Wrexham town centre to Holt.
£87,860 will be put into education and training via the Pass Plus Cymru scheme, Kerbcraft, cycle training, training for older drivers, and awareness schemes.
£170,000 will see improvements to existing pedestrian facilities, upgrading of some paths, improved cycle crossing, improved surface conditions.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said:
“This is excellent news which will see more safety measures implemented across the county borough including implementing 20 mph outside every school in the county borough by the end of 2017. I would like to thank Council officers who successfully bid for this funding from the Welsh Government.”
By 2017 all 72 schools in the county borough will be part of the 20 mph outside schools initiative.
The initiative was introduced in 2009.
