Townscape Heritage Initiative Scheme Supports Local Refurbishment Project

The Tredegar Arms, Morgan Street, Tredegar ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A significant local Tredegar building is to receive a historic refurbishment following a grant offer from the Tredegar Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) Scheme. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Tredegar Arms forms a key part of a historic landscape of buildings that were constructed out of the town’s growth from the iron industry and in recent times has fallen into a state of disrepair. The owners have received a funding offer from the Tredegar THI to aid the conservation sensitive refurbishment to provide a restaurant, hotel and function suite facility in Tredegar. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The project is funded by a number of partners, including the owners, with the THI grant contributions being made up from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Welsh Government’s VVP Tackling Poverty Programme, Cadw and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The partnership funding will refurbish the exterior utilising traditional materials and techniques to allow the building to appear and function as it was originally designed. There will be a new slate roof, lime rendering and timber sash windows along with a sensitively designed and integrated entrance canopy which was originally part of the building but was removed during previous building work. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The internal work will be undertaken to provide a large restaurant and hotel facility with accompanying function space utilising appropriate materials in order for the building to operate and function as a high quality venue. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
