A ‘Big Friendly Read’ For Roald Dahl Fans At Local Libraries This Summer
A six foot high stack of brand new Roald Dahl books – the height of their big friendly author – have been delivered to libraries across the county of Bridgend in preparation for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
Hundreds of Roald Dahl’s best-selling paperbacks, hardcover and picture books, in both English and Welsh formats, are expected to be borrowed by the 3,000 local children participating in the challenge to read six or more library books over the school summer holiday.
Libraries across the Bridgend county will also be hosting a range of themed storytelling, craft and special events throughout July and August, as part of this year’s national celebrations to mark 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl.
Richard Hughes, Chief Executive of Awen Cultural Trust, the new not-for-profit organisation which manages the library service in Bridgend County Borough, said: “We are sure that the ‘Big Friendly Read’ Summer Reading Challenge will inspire a new generation of Roald Dahl fans and we are delighted to support the demand for his much-loved books in our libraries.
“Whichever library you visit across the county of Bridgend you will find plenty of copies of his favourite works including ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘Matilda’ and ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’, and they can even be downloaded as eBooks to your computer, tablet or eReader through our free digital service for library members.”
