Coastal Erosion And Flood Risk Study At Beach Road

Porthcawl residents are invited to attend drop-in sessions as part of an ongoing study into coastal erosion and flood risk at Beach Road in Newton. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Organised by Bridgend County Borough Council, the drop-in sessions will take place on Friday 17 March in Old St John’s Schoolroom, next to Sycamore House, Church Street, Newton at 1pm, 3pm and 7pm. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Each session will last approximately an hour and will include a presentation as well as a chance to ask questions. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor Ceri Reeves, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “The flood and coastal erosion risk posed to land and properties in the Beach Road area is currently managed by a series of coastal structures. Welsh Government have provided funding for us to undertake a review of these coastal defence measures and develop a business case outlining what improvements may be necessary. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We held an initial series of public drop-in events in January which were well attended. The next sessions on 17 March will look at the outcomes of our investigations and propose potential options for the future. We look forward to seeing as many local residents there as possible.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
