Crime Scene Set At Y Llynfi Library For New Reading Group

If you are a promising Poirot or a Miss Marple in the making then the new classic crime reading group at Y Llynfi Library, based in Maesteg Sports Centre, is the perfect place to hone your murder mystery solving skills. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Held at 11am on the last Saturday of each month, the group encourages readers to play detective and guess ‘whodunnit’ from a series of detective novels, including those written by popular authors Arthur Conon Doyle, G K Chesterton and Agatha Christie. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Members are asked to read the selected book at home up to a particular point in the story, solve the crime and phone through their answer to the library’s manager Martyn Jones. The super sleuth of the year will win the ‘golden dagger’ prize. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The following month, the readers get back together and discuss the possible suspects, the characters’ motives, means and opportunities for murder, and their opinion of the book storyline, in a friendly library environment over tea and cake. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Richard Hughes, Chief Executive of Awen Cultural Trust, the charitable organisation which runs libraries across Bridgend County Borough, said: “One of the pleasures of reading crime fiction is trying to solve the crime before the end of the book.
