Former landmark village pub in Bridgend to be turned into apartment blocks after council approves planning application.

The site of a former landmark village pub in Bridgend looks set to be turned into apartment blocks this month, after a planning application was approved by the local council.
The former pub, known as the Ffaldau Arms on Victoria Street, Pontycymer, was destroyed in a fire more than 15 years ago and demolished shortly after, leaving the site vacant.
Devolpers at FDH Property have now been granted permission to build on the land, however, with plans approved to create two blocks of residential accommodation on the site that is described as being, “largely overgrown with self-seeded shrubs having not been maintained for some time.”
Once completed the site would contain 12 apartments across the two buildings, consisting of one two-storey residential block fronting Victoria Street, with six two-bed apartments. There would then be an additional  two/three storey building at the rear that would accommodate four two-bed, and two one-bed apartments.
Plans say there would also be a new access point to the site which lies off the eastern flank of Victoria Street, off the A4064 main road that runs through the centre of the village of Pontycymer, along with 14 parking spaces and a court-yard.
Officers at the meeting noted that the plans had changed considerably during the course of planning, with developers working with them to reduce the scale of the site and alter the layout.
