Improved Access At Newbridge Fields
A new path has been installed around the edge of Newbridge Fields in Bridgend so that even more visitors can enjoy the fields when using a wheelchair or pushchair.
The tarmac path that runs from the Bridgend Life Centre to the cricket pavilion has now been extended further so that it joins up with the lane that runs from Bowham Avenue to the fields.
Councillor Hywel Williams, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “During last year’s Shaping Bridgend’s Future consultation with local residents this was one of the suggestions that came up, so we are delighted to be able to carry out the work.
“This new path opens up the access to one of our local beauty spots to even more wheelchair users and also will be particularly valuable to dog walkers and other park users during wet weather.”
The path is one of a number of schemes undertaken by the council aimed at improving access to local green spaces for residents. Paths at Maesteg Welfare Park and the Tremains Wood and Craig Y Parcau Local Nature Reserves have also been improved recently while sections of the circular path around Wilderness Lake in Porthcawl have been refurbished in partnership with Porthcawl Town Council.
