Mayor’s Support For The ‘Walking Dead’!
The Mayor of Bridgend County Borough has given his backing to a 180-mile charity expedition being made next month by the organiser of the Cardiff Zombie Walk.
Dom Spens will be part of a small group of adventurers walking from Dublin to Belfast, and on to Edinburgh, as he attempts to raise much-needed funds for the Wales Air Ambulance and The Epilepsy Society.
The expedition will start in Dublin on 25 May and will end in Edinburgh on 1 June.
Each year, Dom organises the Cardiff Zombie Walk – a fun event in which all ages dress up as the living dead for a walk around the capital.
Although he won’t be in zombie costume for the charity expedition, a previous Zombie Walk will be in his thoughts, as he explained: “In 2014, one of our Zombie Walk marshals Tracy fell off a small cliff at our event and caused quite a stir by scaring some of the paramedics with her zombie make-up!
“Thanks to the Wales Air Ambulance, Tracy was fine and still marshals for us today, but we would like to raise some money for them as a way of saying thanks.
“The second charity we have chosen is The Epilepsy Society as a close friend recently died due to SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy), so we are hoping to raise as much as possible for both charities.”
Councillor Richard Young, the Mayor of Bridgend County Borough, said: “I’d like to wish Dom and his fellow walkers every success with their charity expedition. These are two extremely worthwhile causes and I am delighted to offer my support.”
