New Pedestrian Crossing Links to be Built in Porthcawl as Part of Ongoing Regeneration

New pedestrian crossing links are set to be built in Porthcawl next week a part of the town’s ongoing regeneration plans.
The fist of the two new crossings will be built by Aldi as part of a “package of highway, pedestrian and cycleway improvements” negotiated by Bridgend Council while granting permission for the development of a new Aldi food store at Salt Lake.
This will be situated at the Portway so that members of the public can move freely between Salt Lake, the Eastern Promenade, and the town centre area.
The new crossing will be signal-controlled and will help people access the new regeneration developments such the refurbished waterfront area, the planned adjacent seafront park or the new Aldi food store. A council spokesperson has confirmed the work will require a temporary closure of the carriageway
A second crossing will also be installed as part of a planned extension of Dock Street, Porthcawl, and is designed to provide access to the new Metrolink transport interchange in the town, which is currently under construction.
The work comes as part of the major redevelopment of the Porthcawl seafront area planned for the coming years, which could include a number of alterations to the town, as well the creation of about 900 new homes, a school, and a road system through Griffin Park, as well as a  number of commercial and leisure opportunities
Councillor Rhys Goode, said: “Ensuring that people can move around freely and easily forms an essential part of our place making plans for Porthcawl. The installation of this new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing will help form a vital part of maintaining close links between the town centre, and the new developments that we are working to provide as part of the ongoing regeneration.
“While some inconvenience will be unavoidable during the crossing’s construction, every effort will be made to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
