Online Survey Asks For Views On Improving Life In Bridgend County Borough
A new survey is asking local residents for their views on how economic, social, cultural and environmental well-being can be improved in Bridgend County Borough.
The Bridgend Public Services Board – which is made up of more than a dozen public sector and third sector organisations – has picked out a series of strengths and challenges across all aspects of local life, and is inviting residents to comment on whether they agree with them.
The information gathered will give the Bridgend Public Services Board a better understanding of what matters most to local people, and how organisations can work together now and in the future to plan and deliver services.
The ‘Better Bridgend’ online survey, which takes about 15 minutes to complete, can be accessed at www.bridgend.gov.uk/BetterBridgend and remains open until Sunday 19 March.
Councillor Huw David, the Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council, said: “The Bridgend Public Services Board has assessed the strengths and weaknesses that cover economic, social, cultural and environmental well-being in our local communities.
“For example, in terms of the economy, children’s educational achievements are rising, but we need to reduce the number of workless households. Meanwhile, childhood obesity is decreasing, but there is a below average life expectancy.
“Culturally, there is a strong commitment to volunteering in the county borough, but few residents can speak Welsh.
“We’re asking local residents for their opinions on the strengths and challenges that have been identified. Their views will help to inform our work to create a better place we all want to live now, and in the future, as set out by the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.”
In April 2016, the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 introduced statutory Public Services Boards across each local authority area in Wales.
The Bridgend Public Services Board replaces the former Local Service Board and is made up of the main public sector and community organisations operating in Bridgend County Borough.
These are Bridgend County Borough Council, ABMU Health Board, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Natural Resources Wales, Public Health Wales, South Wales Police, National Probation Service, Community Rehabilitation Company, Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations (BAVO), Valleys to Coast (V2C), Welsh Government, South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office, Bridgend College, Awen, and Bridgend Business Forum.
