Get over the Blue Monday feeling… Here are 11 things to look forward to in Caerphilly this year! ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Stargazing with Dark Skies Wales – Cwmcarn Forest, Sunday 29 January ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Visit Cwmcarn Forest for an exciting night with the stars! Joined by the experts of Dark Skies Wales, the evening commence at the Visitor Centre with a short talk about the stars in the night sky, and some of the folklore and mythology round their names. Then take a short walk the lake, armed with telescopes and binoculars, to take a close look at the Cwmcarn night sky. There will be plenty of hot chocolate and biscuits! ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Wildlife & Walks – County Parks ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Once again our country parks will play host to a fantastic programme of summer events. From walks and talks to campfire workshops and nature activities the annual programme kicks off on 28 January at Pen-y-fan pond with the 2017 Big Garden Birdwatch. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

‘Back in My Day’ Exhibition – Winding House, opening 20 February ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A new exhibition at the Winding House museum, exploring what life was like ‘back in my day…’ Visitors can also explore the museums’ West Gallery which charts the History of Caerphilly county borough from Pre-historic to present day. There’s also the chance to see the magnificent Victorian Winding Engine which sits at the heart of the museum. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Caerphilly Challenge Series – Rhymney Valley, Saturday 6 May ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Caerphilly Challenge Series is back and more challenging than ever. Saturday May 6 will see beginners, seasoned walkers and even runners tackle the Wild Boar Challenge in the stunning surrounds of the Upper Rhymney Valley. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Caerphilly 10K – Caerphilly Town Centre, Sunday 18 June ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Once again thousands of runners will take on the challenging Caerphilly 10K. The course will lead participants in and around the town centre, passing iconic landmarks including the giant cheese sculpture and Tommy Cooper statue along the way and offering great views of the medieval castle, which dominates as the stunning backdrop to the event. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

South Wales Armed Forces Day 2017 – Caerphilly Town Centre, Saturday 24 June ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Following the success of the 2016 event, which attracted over 10,000 visitors, Caerphilly town centre will once again play host to an impressive parade involving hundreds of service personnel, including representatives from the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, as well as cadets and veterans. This will be followed by a poignant Drum Head Service, which will provide an opportunity to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Summer Reading Challenge 2017 ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Once again children across Caerphilly will be able to take part in the UK wide Summer Reading Challenge at their local library. This year’s theme is strictly a secret – follow @CaerphillyLibs on Twitter for the latest news, and the big announcement! ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Big Cheese – July 2017 ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Bedwellty Agricultural Show – Llancaiach Fawr Manor, Saturday 19 August ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

2016 saw the Bedwellty Agricultural Show move to Llancaiach Fawr Nelson and it’s set to return for 2017. Visitors will once again be able to enjoy demonstrations, displays, trade stalls and the chance to meet old friends! ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Christmas in Caerphilly – November & December ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
