The highway network across the Caerphilly county borough is to benefit from resurfacing works totalling more than £2.35million over the next few months. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

In the first phase of these works motorists will see improvements at 34 sites across the area as Caerphilly county borough council rolls out an extensive programme of resurfacing schemes. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

An innovative technique called ‘CAUTS’ (cold applied ultra-thin surfacing) will be used to improve the road surface. Chippings are firmly embedded into the road surface by the application of a special locking spray within 24 hours. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

This is an improvement on the previous ‘surface dressing’ technique which relies upon the movement of traffic to embed the loose chippings into the road surface over a period of time following application. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“I’m sure this investment will be welcomed by motorists across the area as it will lead to a noticeable improvement to our highway network,” said Cllr Tom Williams, CCBC Cabinet Member for Transportation and Highways. “We are also pleased to be employing new technology to carry out the work in a more efficient and effective manner. The CAUTS system will significantly reduce the amount of loose chippings that are left on the road following this type of work.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Any existing potholes will be filled and repairs made at the 34 site in readiness for the start of the resurfacing works, which are due to start on Monday 6th June 2016. Weather depending, the works will take approximately 3 weeks to complete. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Subsequent phases of work will include the use of conventional re-surfacing and Micro Asphalt surface preservation techniques, all works are programmed for completion by the Autumn and every effort will be made to minimise any inconvenience during the course of these essential maintenance works. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
