70,000 Take Advantage Of Free Swim Initiatives

Free Swim Initiatives in Caerphilly county borough have proved popular, with almost 70,000 leisure centre users taking advantage so far this year. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Since the 2nd January 2016, close to 70,000 keen swimmers have taken advantage of free swim initiatives throughout Caerphilly county borough including: – ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

  • 60+ free swim – Almost 33,000 people age 60+ have taken part in Caerphilly county borough’s 60+ Free Swim where everyone over the age of 60 goes is admitted for free to local swimming pools. This aims to encourage older people in the area to lead a healthier, active lifestyle as swimming is an ideal form of exercise for people of all ages.
  • Junior Free Swim – This free swim initiative funded by the Welsh Government gives young people age 16 and under the chance to have free swimming sessions during the school holidays. This includes structured swim sessions, as well as water polo and snorkelling during the school holidays.
  • Free Swim Fridays – Free Swim Fridays have proved hugely popular, where the whole family can come along to any leisure centre in Caerphilly county borough for a free swim session. Keep fit and have fun without splashing any cash!
  • Armed Forces Free Swim – Sport and leisure services in conjunction with Welsh Government provide free swim sessions to all current serving and retired Armed Services Personnel who hold the Defence Discount Service Card.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said: “Swimming provides a fantastic form of exercise for people of all ages and I am delighted that so many leisure centre users have taken advantage of Caerphilly county borough’s free swim initiatives”. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
