Adult Learning throughout Caerphilly county borough has gone from strength to strength, with 1653 enrolments into adult learning courses during the last academic year (2015/16). ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Bridges into Work 2 has provided support to 137 people who are aged 25 and over and either long term unemployed or economically inactive during 2015/16. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Participants who seek support from Bridges into Work 2 benefit from individual support in order to write a CV, increase their confidence and self-esteem, complete application forms, gain a range of qualifications and gain voluntary placements in a work related environment, as well as support in moving into employment. Employability workshops are also run, where participants receive support with telephone techniques, application forms and interview skills. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Advisors are available to meet participants in libraries and community centres as near to their home as possible. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Working Skills for Adults 2 has assisted 81 participants during the last academic year through helping those over the age of 16 who live or work in the borough to gain qualifications to progress in their current role or to change their career path. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Working Skills for Adults 2 assisted a previous shop assistant into achieving her goal of becoming a carer for the elderly. This was achieved through improvements to her C.V., as well as attending several courses relevant to her chosen career path which included manual handling and food safety. As a result of the support and training provided by Working Skills for Adults 2, the participant was offered the job and achieved her goal of becoming an adult carer. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr Derek Havard, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning said: “Adult learning has thrived throughout Caerphilly during 2015/16, with a total of 576 individuals engaging in family learning, as well as a number of participants achieving qualifications and employment. The service has also enabled participants to attend a range of courses including food safety, health and safety, first aid, customer service, manual handling, and conflict management. I look forward to seeing how it continues to benefit participants in the future”. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
