An Event Fit For A King
Royalty visited Llancaiach Fawr on Sunday 7 August, when the annual King’s Day event returned.
The Manor brought the summer of 1645 alive when King Charles I visited along with Colonel Gerard as part of his rallying tour of South Wales when his support across the nation began to dwindle.
The successful event transported around 500 visitors back to the Stuart era, where they could gaze upon the spectacle of a Royal Monarch feasting on a number of delicacies from the time whilst being entertained by the Fool, who roamed the grounds.
The 17th Century lifestyle of the regiment, who were encamped within the formal gardens, was also showcased through numerous interactive displays, including cooking, pike drills and games.
This year welcomed many new visitors who were astounded by the range of activities available including, children’s crafts, a bouncy castle, a circus workshop and a falconry display.
The King will return next year to repeat the enjoyable day and visit his subjects.
