Big Spring Clean 2017 Is Launched In Senghenydd
Caerphilly county borough’s Big Spring Clean 2017 was launched on Monday 20th February with the first clean-up of the year in Senghenydd, where over a tonne of discarded refuse was collected.
A keen workforce was present at the embankment of Nant Cwm Parc stream made up of local residents, the Senghenydd Youth Group SYDIC, Keep Wales Tidy and Caerphilly County Borough Council’s LEQ Community Cleansing Team, Community Safety Team and Gwent Police.
A variety of tasks were carried out to make the area cleaner and greener including the cut back of brambles and overgrowth and the clearance of rubbish. Materials were also collected from the water course which included a sofa, a chair, two footballs and a tyre.
Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said: “Thank you to the residents who helped take part in the first community clean-up of the Big Spring Clean 2017. The stream that flows through Senghenydd has now been thoroughly cleansed, which was appreciated by a number of passers-by during the clean-up. I look forward to seeing how the Big Spring Clean transforms other areas of the borough throughout the year”.
