Blackwood Miners’ Summer Season
Blackwood Miners’ Institute have opened the doors to their new summer season! Running from May to July, it’s packed to the brim with entertaining performances.
The Kast Off Kinks steal the show on Friday 20th May, performing hits including You Really Got Me, Lola, Sunny Afternoon and many more! Music lovers can also enjoy musical duo Into the Ark on Saturday 21st May, who produce pitch perfect harmonies and beautiful lyrics for the audience to enjoy.
Those who fancy a good laugh on Monday 23rd May can experience Spike Milligan’s Puckoon, a comic masterpiece which takes the mick, celebrates the absurd and paints a picture of a simple life that borders on the ridiculous.
Ballet Cymru return to Blackwood Miners’ Institute on Saturday 28th May with a production of Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs, which has been produced to celebrate the centenary of the famous author Roald Dahl. The ‘Stute also welcomes another children’s book adaption in the form of The King in The Sky on Wednesday 1st June. This is an uplifting tale about a young Italian boy who is drawn into an unlikely friendship with a retired miner and his champion racing pigeons.
Pop Factor will visit Blackwood on Thursday 2nd June, with a range of smash hits from Taylor Swift to Ed Sheeran. The Simon and Garfunkel Story will come to The ‘Stute on Saturday 4th June, direct from its success in London’s West End. The production contains projection photos, original film footage and a full live band performing all the hits including ‘Mrs Robinson’ and ‘Celia’.
The Welsh Musical Theatre Orchestra makes a welcome return to Blackwood on Thursday 9th June with Broadway! A Night at the Musicals including hits from ‘Wicked’ and ‘The Phantom of the Opera’.
Following on from this is The Show at the End of the Universe on Friday 10th June, which takes the audience on a fascinating journey of discovery.
On Monday 13th June, a ‘live documentary’, Woodie Guthrie: The Long Road to Peekskill will tell the story of Woody who risked his life holding the line against American fascism during the notorious Peekskill Riots of 1949. The drama continues to unfold on Wednesday 14th June with Mirimar, the tale of a widow who is forced to leave her long term home.
Young theatre lovers are invited to follow the life of young inventor Monty on Saturday 18th June, as he creates a whole world of whacky inventions in Monstersaurus!
A celebration of iconic music will visit Blackwood Miners’ Institute on Wednesday 22nd June as Summer Dreaming rolls into town. Oh Hello! Looks to honour Charles Hawtrey on Tuesday 14th June, discovering stories from 50 years in the film industry, with tales of his hilarious run ins with Kenneth Williams and his disdain of the Carry On producers.
A number of dance performances will be available throughout July at the ‘Stute, with CSSA Just Dance, Another Opening Another Show and the CCBC Community Dance Festival showing what the dance community has to offer. Wednesday 20th July will also welcome the BMI Community Drama Showcase 2016.
