Caerphilly Borough Summer Holidays Activities

Have you heard the dreaded two words yet? “I’m bored!” Well, this week is a busy one for the Caerphilly borough with activities suitable for all ages in all weathers. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cwmcarn Forest welcomes its second Junior and Mini Rangers activity this week. Children can join the warden, on Wednesday 10 August, for fun activities across the valley floor and create new habitats for the wildlife that live in the forest. Mini Rangers will begin at 10am until 11am and is suitable for ages 4 to 6. Junior Rangers starts at 1pm until 3pm and it suitable for children aged 7 to 11. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Parc Cwm Darran will be flying their kites on Wednesday 10 August where children are invited to create their own and see how far they go. The activity will begin at 11am until 3pm and costs just £1.50 per child. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Explore the past at the Winding House, where children can interact with hands-on Roman history. On Wednesday 10 August, children and adults can discover the everyday life of a Roman with free entry to the activity. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

On Thursday 11 August, Llancaiach Fawr will be holding another of their family fun children’s activity days with the theme being Minions. From 11am – 4pm, children and adults are invited to join in the fun and games that will be taking place, including a disco, bouncy castle and face painting. Tickets cost £5 per child and first adult enter for free. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Or why not explore the Cwmcarn Valley for Flower Meanderings at Cwmcarn Forest on Thursday 11 August at 1:30pm – 3:30pm. Take a close look at the flowers that surround the Valley and learn about how they have been used throughout the centuries. Tickets cost £4 per adult and £2.50 per child. For our smaller walkers, they can create a colourful journey card of their walk. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Join Cwmcarn Forest, on Friday 12 August, for another of their ‘Upcycling’ events where children are invited to create a hedgehog planter using a recycled pop bottle. Starting at 10am until 2:15pm, children aged four and above will be getting messy with compost and seeds to turn their pop bottles into creative, colourful planters. Tickets cost £2.50 per child. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Learn about our wonderful woodland at Parc Cwm Darran on Friday 12 August, from 11am-3pm, where families are welcome to create their own wood guardian. Tickets cost £5 plus Art Attack. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Winding House will be holding their own Craft Club on Friday 12 August. Children can design their own Roman tile in Stampy Mosaics, these family fun craft afternoons with a historical twist will be taking place each Friday between 11am and 2pm throughout the school holidays. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Add a splash of colour to Cwmcarn Forest, with the Floral Sun Catchers Planters workshop. Join the warden on Monday 15 August at 10am – 2:15pm, to create and decorate your own sun catcher with flowers from the valley floor. Workshop is suitable for children aged 4 years and over, costing £3 per child. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
