Caerphilly County Borough Council has been presented with a ‘Gold Performance Award’, in recognition of the management of its address information database. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The award, which was announced at the GeoPlace annual conference and presentation of the Exemplar Awards 2016, celebrates the excellence in service delivery that has been enabled through local government address and street information. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Gold Performance Award for Address Data is given to authorities that reach and maintain a very high standard in national tests on data excellence, and supply regular updates to the national hub, which co-ordinates receipt of address data from all authorities across England and Wales. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Speaking at the conference, the RT Hon Matt Hancock MP, Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General said: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Addresses are invaluable to our economy and our public services. Addresses help make sure that emergency services get to our door as quickly as possible; they help confirm our identity and help us to access products and services. It is true that everything happens somewhere, and as a result, high quality address data is fundamental. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“I want to pay tribute to the work local authorities do in creating accurate addresses across Britain through the role of the Local Land and Property Gazetteer Custodian, which is invaluable to the process of querying and matching addresses – driving up accuracy and improving the frequency of updates.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

In presenting the Award to Caerphilly County Borough Council, Kerry Pearce, National Address Data Manager said: “Caerphilly county borough council has achieved the highest standard of address information data management. Achieving this level demonstrates excellence and commitment to a process that brings local and national benefits.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Caerphilly County Borough Council, like all councils across the country, has a statutory responsibility to name all roads and streets, and for the naming and numbering of all properties (residential, commercial, industrial and non-postal addresses) within the borough. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG) team is responsible for undertaking the street naming and property numbering function, and for maintaining the council’s Gazetteer system, which is a textual and spatial mapping database of all addresses in Caerphilly Borough. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development added, “It is great to hear our officers’ hard work is being recognised in managing this crucial information database. Our team take great pride in maintaining the Gazetteer and providing a high quality service, so it is a testament to them to have received this very prestigious accolade.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
