Caerphilly Council has agreed a set of Well-being Objectives for 2017/18 as part of the authority’s responsibilities under the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

A review of the 2016/17 objectives, which are set using a range of intelligence and statistical data to establish the needs of the local area, identified that they continue to contribute strongly to achieving local well-being. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The five overarching well-being objectives will enable the council to focus efforts on improving service delivery for residents over the forthcoming year. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

  • To help people make the best use of their household income and manage their debts
  • Improve outcomes for all learners, particularly those vulnerable to under achievement
  • Close the gap in life expectancy for residents between the most and least deprived areas in the borough
  • Carbon Management: Reduce our carbon footprint
  • Investment in Council homes to transform lives and communities

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, Cllr. Barbara Jones said, “It is important to remember that we strive to continually enhance and improve all of the services that we offer residents and the objectives are there to identify the priority areas. In addition to using the statistical data we believe it is vitally important that priority areas are driven by the opinions of our residents and we carryout consultations to capture feedback directly from residents to shape our services. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

She continued, “I have no doubt that the introduction of the Well-being Objectives will enhance the work that we already do and will work towards gaining a full picture of service requirements so we are able meet and exceed the needs of our residents.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The 2017/18 Well-being Objectives will be reviewed later this year following the May elections. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Outcomes of the 8 priorities set out for 2013-2017 in the Corporate Plan will be published in a report in the coming months. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
