Caerphilly Council Urges Firework Safety During Bonfire Season

Caerphilly County Borough Council is urging residents to stay safe during firework season, particularly with Bonfire Night fast approaching.
The Council’s Food, Health and Safety Team have some important safety advice for anyone thinking of using fireworks as part of their celebrations: –
- Only buy fireworks marked BS7114 or EN15947 and from a reputable retailer
- Ensure children are always supervised and keep pets indoors
- Keep fireworks in a closed box and use them one at a time
- Read and follow the instructions on each firework with a torch
- Light at arms length, using a taper and then stand well back
- Never consume alcohol when setting off fireworks
- Wear gloves when holding sparklers and never give them to children under 5
- Keep naked flames, including cigarettes, away from fireworks
- Don’t put fireworks in pockets or throw them
- Never return to a firework once it’s been lit
- Always keep a bucket of water to hand
