Caerphilly County Borough Council Continues To Support Voluntary Sector
Caerphilly County Borough Council has announced that it will continue to commit £170,000 to the voluntary sector grants scheme for the next year.
The Voluntary Sector Capital Grants scheme, known as the Community Regeneration Fund, allows local grassroots organisations to apply for up to £25,000 of grant funding to support the work they do. The grant supports projects that meet strict criteria and that can prove they will have a social, economic, environmental or cultural impact on an area or community within the county borough. Projects applying for funding are also required to demonstrate that they will enhance employment prospects and skills of local people; they will protect and improve the local environment and infrastructure, and bring land and buildings into effective use as well as improving the quality of life for local people and encourage communities to secure a sustainable future and encourage regeneration.
Projects supported in recent years include Senghenydd Community Centre, Blackwood Little Theatre, Caerphilly Miners Community Centre for the Community and Taraggan Educational Gardens, Bargoed. Groups which receive a grant are often later successful in securing additional funding from organisations such as Lottery or Welsh Government sources.
Cllr. Ken James, Cabinet Member for Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning & Sustainable Development and chair of the funding panel said: “The voluntary sector plays a hugely important role in local communities, helping to improve the lives of many individuals. The work many groups undertake makes a great difference to the environment as well as protecting buildings and putting them to use for the good of communities. I am pleased that Caerphilly County Borough council has agreed to commit £170,000 to the Community Regeneration Fund and I look forward to seeing the fantastic projects that will benefit from investment this year.”
