Caerphilly’s Library Service Celebrates Roald Dahl’s Centenary
Children throughout Caerphilly county borough celebrated the centenary of Roald Dahl’s birth yesterday, with activities being held in schools and libraries across the borough.
Caerphilly Library Service pulled out all the stops to celebrate the famous author, with activities in a number of libraries including workshops, treasure hunts and competitions.
160 children attended workshops at their local library, where author Dan Anthony entertained local school children with game and stories.
A Roald Dahl themed treasure hunt was enjoyed by all during the day, where children searched for pictures from Roald Dahl’s books and matched them to the correct story title. Every child who participated in the treasure hunt was also entered into a prize draw to win a set of Roald Dahl books, a Roald Dahl puppet theatre or a BFG DBD and Roald Dahl bookmark.
Roald Dahl has been celebrated in Caerphilly’s libraries throughout the summer months, with Roald Dahl themed story and craft sessions being very well attended.
Caerphilly Library Service also hosted the Big Friendly Read – Summer Reading Challenge 2016 throughout summer to celebrate Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday. The Big Friendly Read invited children to read 6 books of their choice during the summer holidays, gaining rewards along the way. On completion of all 6 books the children received their very own medal and certificate to keep.
