Campaigning Comic Comes To Blackwood
Campaigning comic Mark Thomas will bring his brand new show ‘The Red Shed’ to Blackwood Miners’ Institute on Tuesday 29th November at 7.30pm.
Part theatre, part stand-up, part journalism and part activism, the show takes the audience to the place where it all began for Thomas as comedian and agitator – The Red Shed, a labour club in Wakefield. Home to Mark’s first public performances, it is a cradle of dissent, organising and progressive politics, and it was here that his true political prowess was nurtured.
Interviewing old friends and comrades, Mark pieces together the club’s history and works alongside it to campaign with some of the poorest workers in the country. It is the story of the battle for hope and the survival of a community. It is a tale of strikes, fights, dinner ladies, beer, burger slingers, pickets, placards, friendship, love, history, dreams and, above all, remembering.
Tickets to Mark Thomas’ ‘The Red Shed’ cost £15 (£10 students and unwaged) and are available by calling into the box office, by phone on 01495 227 206 or online at www.blackwoodminersinstitute.com
