Community Chest Funding For Community Groups

Applications are now open for community groups to apply for the Sport Wales Community Chest grant funding which is allocated to increase participation and standards. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Sport Caerphilly is encouraging community groups to apply for the Community Chest grant, which provides up to £1,500 to successful community groups. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Applications for the funding have increased year on year, with 82 applications and a total of £84,937 awarded during 2015. However, during 2016 this has increased to a staggering 96 applications which resulted in the full allocation of £112,350 being awarded for the first time. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Funding awarded includes: – ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

  • Heolddu Gymnastics Club received £1,500 to train up 4 of their volunteers with their UKCC Level 1 qualification
  • Cascade Football Club received £1,500 to purchase equipment and to train up some volunteers with their Football Leaders Award
  • Blackwood Town Cricket Club received £1,499 to purchase equipment.Applications are now open for the forthcoming year, with the first 2017 application deadline on Friday 24th March, followed by a panel meeting on Thursday 6th April.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said: “I am delighted that the Community Chest grant has helped so many community groups throughout Caerphilly county borough including Blackwood Town Cricket Club, Heolddu Gymnastics Club and Cascade Football Club.
