Caerphilly Council has been presented with the Good Practice and Innovation Award by the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA). ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The programme, open to Councillors from all parties and positions, gave participants the opportunity to develop their key skills and knowledge, required by members in senior positions, to improve performance and progression within the Council. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Over a six month period, the programme was held each Saturday through a number of seminars, workshops, research and practical exercises designed to challenge and encourage the development of new skills at a more strategic level. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The award was presented to the Council on Tuesday 19 July to the Mayor of Caerphilly Council, Cllr Dianne Price and Emma Sullivan, Democratic Services Officer by Sarah Titcombe of the WLGA. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The WLGA said, “The programme has been thoughtfully planned from the initial consultations on its structure and contents and methods of learning. The sustained commitment required from members in order to achieve the award – and the completion of the award by 8 councillors is a notable achievement. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

They continued, “The extent and intensity of the programme should result in good learning outcomes for the members, and will help embed a culture of continual learning and self-development within the elected membership at Caerphilly.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr Dianne Price, Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council said, “On behalf of the Council, we are delighted to be presented with this award. The programme has aided and enhanced our councillors’ skills and knowledge and we are proud that all the hard work gone into the development of the programme has been recognised.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
