Council Offers Helping Hand To Those In Need This Christmas
Food banks across the Caerphilly county borough have been given a helping hand this Christmas, thanks to donations from council staff and suppliers.
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s annual food bank collection saw four foodbanks in Blackwood, New Tredegar, Caerphilly and Risca receive 12 boxes of donations each, along with £110 to purchase additional items to help those in needs over the festive period.
This year’s appeal also saw a number of council suppliers and contractors provide support to fill Christmas hampers. A total of 96 hampers were filled with essential items including toiletries and long life food products, as well as Christmas treats as part of Operation Santa. The hampers will now be donated to young people within the borough as well as families and individuals known to Social Services and the Tenancy Support Team.
A total of £2,000 was donated by contractors who work for Caerphilly County Borough Council, which were used to fill hampers and contribute to local foodbanks. The companies who made such generous donations were: Keepmoat, Contract Services, Vinci, Robert Price Builders Merchants (and their suppliers), Bryn Group Ltd, Tarmac, F I Walters, Springfield Business Papers, Keith’s Fruit and Veg, Alun Griffiths, Viridor, WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff, Peter’s Food Service and Castell Howell.
Cllr David Poole, Cabinet Member for Housing said: “Thank you to Caerphilly County Borough Council staff, suppliers and contractors for giving so generously to such a good cause. I hope that the food hampers and foodbank donations will go a little way in providing essential food and toiletries, as well as some Christmas treats to those in need within the county borough. A huge thank you must also be said to the Housing Team for co-ordinating the donation of food hampers”.
