Caerphilly County Borough Council has pledged its support for the Royal British Legion’s new campaign “Count Them In” that calls for additional questions to be included in the next census in 2021.
The Government’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) has already started to plan questions for the next UK census. According to the Royal British Legion, an estimated 1 in 10 of the UK population are members of the Armed Forces community but there is very limited information about where they are or what their needs might be.
Adding new questions to the 2021 census will ensure a better understanding of this unique community and help ensure that politicians, charities and service providers fully meet the needs of serving personnel, veterans and their families.
Cllr Alan Higgs, the council’s Armed Forces Champion said, “Service personnel, veterans and their families deserve the very best support and I am delighted that Caerphilly County Borough Council has agreed to support this important campaign”.
