Dianne accepted the position of civic head at the Annual General Meeting of Council yesterday (12th May 2016). ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr Dianne Price said, “It is such a fantastic honour to have been selected as the new Mayor, and I greatly look forward to the challenges and opportunities that my year in office will bring. I have lived in Caerphilly county borough my whole life and am extremely passionate about our local area and its people. I’m really looking forward to meeting a great number of new people from all walks of life over the coming year”. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Dianne grew up in Cascade, Penpedairheol and moved to Bargoed when she was 10 years old. After leaving school she had a variety of jobs, the longest of which was as the manager of her local Shoefayre store, where she worked for 18 years. In fact, to many people in her community she is still referred to as ‘Dianne Shoefayre’! ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr Price has been a councillor since 2004, representing the Bargoed ward and says she has loved every single minute of it. In addition to her duties as a local councillor, Dianne also oversees a regular luncheon club for over 25 people as well as a local knitting club. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Talking of her local area, Dianne says ‘she loves her community and will continue for as long as she has the energy to do so”. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

She has three children, and sadly lost her husband in 2001 at the age of 57. She has since remarried to a teenage sweetheart and is very happy indeed. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Dianne’s chosen charity for the forthcoming year is Velindre Cancer Care, and is hoping to raise as much money as possible during her time as Mayor for this very worthy cause. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Deputy Mayor has also been announced as Cllr John Bevan, who represents the Moriah ward. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
