The new exhibition is a fascinating collection of objects and images detailing the different aspects of growing up in South Wales, from Victorian school rooms, wartime lessons and Sunday school to board games, toys and childhood adventures. There’s also plenty of hands-on activities and dressing up to take part in, perfect to keep the whole family entertained. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Visitors to the Winding House can also enjoy the museum’s West Gallery which is home to a permanent exhibition exploring the history of the local area, from pre-historic times, to the Roman invasion, Industrial Revolution and World Wars. The fully interactive gallery allows visitors young and old to create their own Bronze Age pots, take selfies in medieval stocks and enjoy the smells of a WWII air raid shelter! ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Winding House is also home to a series of community displays as well as a coffee shop serving locally sourced cakes and treats, and a gift shop with a fine selection of Welsh produce, historic toys and handmade jewellery. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Winding House is open Monday – Friday, 10am to 5pm and Saturday & Sunday, 11am to 4pm and entry is free. ‘Back in my Day’ – Childhood in the valleys is open until Sunday 3 September 2017. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
