Explore The Local Countryside This September

There are lots of opportunities to explore the Caerphilly countryside this September with a number of guided walks and family events. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

On Wednesday 7 September keen walkers can enjoy a gentle 5km stroll around the industrial past of peaceful Machen. The ‘Machen Forge walk’ will be led in Welsh, but with English translations on request. The free event starts at 10am at Basil & Rusty’s Ice Cream Parlour, Machen, and will take a couple of hours. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

‘The Ten stone trail’ takes place at Parc Cwm Darran on Saturday 10 September. Discover ten historic features of the Darran Valley as part of the 2016 Valleys walking Festival. This is a long 16.5km distance, but medium difficulty walk that requires suitable clothing and plenty of food and drink. The walk starts at 9.30am and should be completed by 4.30pm. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Also on Saturday 10 September families can enjoy ‘Confessions, Revelry and Revelations’ a series of stories inspired by Roald Dahl at Parc cwm Darran. This family focused event will include poetry, storytelling and songs from local writers and artists. Stories will be inspired by Roald Dahl’s ‘Revolting Rhymes’, The Witches, and George’s Marvellous Medicine books. An afternoon choc-full of fun! The fun takes place between 3pm – 5.30pm, and is suitable for children ages 6+. ‘Picnic in the Park’ returns to Bedwas Riverside Park on Saturday 17 September. Celebrate autumn by bringing a picnic and join us for fun & games at the Riverside Park in Trethomas. The picnic will be held in the middle of the park in the big meadow. This event is suitable for all ages and the fun takes place between 12pm – 4pm. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Completing the month of walks and talks is ‘Marvellous Mynyddislwyn’ on Saturday 17 September. A walk through the enchanting countryside taking in some of nature’s finest autumnal views, part of the free Valleys Walking festival. This is a medium to difficult, 10KM walk. The walk starts at the car park on Twyn Gwyn Road, Cwmfelinfach at 10am and will be finished by around 2.30pm. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
