Work starts this week on the demolition of an old footbridge at Lansbury Park, Caerphilly.
The structure, which links Lansbury Park to Bedwas Road, will be demolished and replaced with new lengths of footpaths and dropped kerbs.
Caerphilly County Borough Council consulted residents on the demolition of the bridge after a structural report stated it was in need of considerable repair.
The demolition works are scheduled to start on Tuesday 21st March and will take up to 2 weeks to complete. The section of road between Greenwood Court and Trevelyan Court will be closed for the demolition work.
There will also be a diversion to bus route F from Monday 20 March 2017 whilst the road is closed. As a result, after serving Snowden Court, buses on route F will operate via Bedwas Road to Caerphilly Town Centre.
The following bus stops will not be served:-
- Greenwood Court
- Trevelyan Court
- Brynau Road (towards Caerphilly)
- North View Terrace (towards Caerphilly)
After the bridge is removed the footpaths will be constructed taking up to another 4 weeks to complete but the road will be open whilst this work is undertaken.
A spokesman for the council said: “The removal of the bridge will greatly improve the general look of the estate and compliment the exterior works currently in progress to properties across Lansbury Park.”
