Go Wild! Set To Get Bags Of Help From Tesco

Caerphilly’s Countryside and Landscape team are set to get Bags of Help for their Go Wild! event thanks to a Tesco initiative. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Countryside and Landscape team have been shortlisted to receive a grant of either £5,000, £2,000 or £1,000 from Tesco, as a result of the ‘Bags of Help’ initiative which uses money raised from the 5p bag levy to support local groups. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Three groups in every Tesco region have been selected to receive a cash award and shoppers are now being invited to head over to their local Tesco store to vote for who they think should take away the top grant of £5,000. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Voting is open throughout March and April, with customers casting their vote using a token given to them at the check-out each time they shop in store. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Go Wild! event is scheduled to take place in Parc Penallta on Sunday 11th June. The event provides the opportunity for visitors meet hedgehogs, bats, owls, butterflies, moths, reptiles and amphibians as well as learning about local wildlife and to find out how to make their community and garden a friendlier place for native plants and animals. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The event will also promote the importance of pollination through bee keeping and wildlife will be brought to life through story-telling, bug box making and guided walks. Organisations will also be present including Biodiversity Wales, the RSPB, butterfly conservation charities, wildlife trusts and other conservation charities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development said: “I am thrilled that Caerphilly’s Countryside and Landscape team are set to benefit from Tesco and Groundwork’s ‘Bags of Help’ initiative. Any donation as a result will help to fund the Go Wild! event which provides a fantastic family day out, as well as educating children and their families on the importance of providing habitats for local wildlife, which enables it to thrive. Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork to launch the Bags of Help scheme raises money to award to local community projects. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
